After about 15 years as a professional animator working for many high end feature clients including Disney Features (The Princess and The Frog), Universal Pictures (Curious George) & Warner Bros (Osmosis Jones), Shannon Penner has turned his sights to one of his first passions: music and audio.
Merging his love of music and his considerable experience in the film and television industry, Shannon started working as a composer and sound designer immediately upon graduating from Fanshawe College’s illustrious Music Industry Arts program. Obtaining top marks in the program and receiving the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Fred Sherratt Award solidified his resolve to work in audio post production and the immediate demand for his services proved this to be a wise choice.
Working in conjunction with Yowza Animation, in 2010 Shannon composed all the music and some of the sound effects and final mixes for Yowza’s early learner series Hippothesis which is currently airing on TVO and Knowledge Network in Canada, MHZ in the U.S. Israel, Ireland and other international territories. Shannon has also composed music for all of Yowza’s IP development pitches including their upcoming feature, The Man In The Iron Pants.
Shannon also releases his personal music under the pseudonym ‘orbit over luna‘.
*note* – the name Plunk & Boom is inspired by my favourite piece of animation, Disney’s Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom. Done in 1953, it was the first ever cartoon in Cinemascope.
