Recently I wrote a piece of music for a few specific reasons. I wanted to test out some new sample libraries that I picked up, to try out a new(for me) method of composing, and well, just for kicks.
The result is a track I’ve called “Compulsion”
The new samples I’m using are the Adagietto, Agitato Grandiose Legato and the Claire Alto Flute by 8DIO. Excellent libraries! Lush and expressive.
The composing method I’m using is Hexachords, which I learned at a seminar with Norman Ludwin. A bit complicated, but I like the results!
Recently I set myself up for a little learning exercise. I wanted to write some Main Title music for a fictional Superhero TV show…kind of like an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. type of thing.
Some orchestra, some electro synthy stuff, a big bold melody and lots of drive.
Here’s what I came up with:
Totally fun exercise! I should do this more often!
I have recently been doing the audio for a short film where 2 people meet on a subway train. It tells the story of the initial spark that is the beginning of their relationship.
The audio for the film took on a very interesting role. There is very little dialogue and what little there is got intentionally covered up by the sound design. We are only supposed to catch snippets of their conversation as if we’re listening in from a bit of a distance. The music was supposed to be very sound design-y. Not traditionally scored. I wanted to build all of the musical elements out of location sounds that I recorded from the TTC subway.
This piece of music is one of my experiments in the process. I thought to keep it Continue Reading
This is a little spot I did as a promo for Yowza Animation, the animation studio that I work for. I am quite proud of how it turned out so I thought I’d do a quick little write-up about the tools that I used to make it. Continue Reading
