New music with Hexachords!

Recently I wrote a piece of music for a few specific reasons. I wanted to test out some new sample libraries that I picked up, to try out a new(for me) method of composing, and well, just for kicks.

The result is a track I’ve called “Compulsion”

The new samples I’m using are the Adagietto, Agitato Grandiose Legato and the Claire Alto Flute by 8DIO. Excellent libraries! Lush and expressive.

The composing method I’m using is Hexachords, which I learned at a seminar with Norman Ludwin. A bit complicated, but I like the results!

New music – Superheroes!

Some orchestra, some electro synthy stuff, a big bold melody and lots of drive.

Here’s what I came up with:

Totally fun exercise! I should do this more often!

The audio for the film took on a very interesting role. There is very little dialogue and what little there is got intentionally covered up by the sound design. We are only supposed to catch snippets of their conversation as if we’re listening in from a bit of a distance. The music was supposed to be very sound design-y. Not traditionally scored. I wanted to build all of the musical elements out of location sounds that I recorded from the TTC subway.

This piece of music is one of my experiments in the process. I thought to keep it Continue Reading
